Today’s sightseeing was all done on foot after sitting so long on the plane. We ventured from our apartment walking up Fountainbridge Street to the Grassmarket area where lots of eateries and bars are found.
Edinburgh Castle from the Grassmarket area.
We continued up Victoria Street to the Royal Mile but before we arrived at the castle we stopped in Victoria Street to take photos. Known for its picturesque setting of old terrace style buildings, the street is now more famous as the inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter books and even has a store filled with Harry Potter merchandise.

Edinburgh Castle at the top of the Royal Mile has amazing views over the city. Even though it’s the off-season, there were still crowds of people especially when the 1pm canon firing took place. Very brisk temperature today with the wind.
On the opposite side of town, we found a promenade of terraces with a large cathedral at the end. It had a very familiar name.
