Guid Mornin Edinburgh

After 26 hours in the air and transit, it was great to finally touch down in cool brisk Scotland. Walking off a courtesy bus from the plane into Edinburgh’s border control hall was very countrified after transiting through Doha’s futuristic airport. That was after waiting half an hour on the plane because the pilot stopped short of the gangway and they had to find a truck to pull the plane 2 metres forward!

We left the airport by taxi with a very informative Scotsman telling us what is worthwhile to see and what wasn’t. No problems getting into our 2nd floor apartment at Fountain Court Hotel Apartment in Grove Street Edinburgh. After a brisk walk yesterday afternoon to get groceries, have dinner ( at 4pm) and find our bearings for tomorrow, we were in bed by 6pm.

Woke up at 6am to darkness and finally saw sunrise at 8am. A walking day today up to Edinburgh Castle, along the Royal Mile, down to Victoria Street - picturesque for its building and inspiration for JK Rowling’s Diagonal Alley - across to Prince Street and looping back toward the apartment via Melville Street - we had to do a detour just to get a photo. There is a bit of choice - Melville Terrace, Melville Lane, Melville Drive, Statue of Viscount Melville, pubs, inns etc all under the same name.
